How much can you afford? Christmas is coming up, and you can see if your family will give $25.00 each towards a decent SLR instead of other gifts. You can get a Canon 30D and a decent lens for around $300.00 on Craigslist. We all pooled together for Linds after her camera got stolen, and it works really well for her.
I think you'll be sad if you don't at least keep taking pictures of Ian with your phone camera. Not much is better than nothing.. Besides, they aren't nearly as bad as you think. ;-)
